Set in the midst of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, next to the Mediterranean and just a few kilometres from Barcelona, we find Alta Alella winery, the family project of Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets Camps, his wife Cristina Guillén Soldevila and their two daughters, Mireia and Georgina. Since the beginning in 1991, the family has always worked with organic agriculture and has recovered vineyards of more than 65 years old and traditional varieties such as Pansa Blanca (Xarel-lo) and Mataró (Monastrell). The vineyards, planted in coastal areas and terraces, are located in the towns of Alella, Teià and Tiana, origin of high-quality cava since the beginning of the 20th century.
The winery was a pioneer in the production of sulphite-free cava (since the 2006 harvest). In 2017, Vallcirera was recognized as a Qualified Site by CR Cava (the only ecological one since its origins and located in a natural park), distinction and reward for many years of work producing high-quality cavas, with personality own and tied to the territory. In 2022 the DO Cava certifies the winery as an Integral Producer -a guarantee of traceability and origin- and certifies the differential character of the Serra de Mar territory . This recognises the singularity of Alella territory, for its exceptional and unique soil, climatic, orographic and historical characteristics.
